The Design of this Site

  Update: 17 January 2001

I just had yet another e-mail saying "Why the funk do you want to make your site look like a) everybody else's and b) like one of those crappy designs you show in your design section.

Fair comment. I'll leave things alone. Actually, I'm very attached to the look of the site as it is. What I worry about is that I'm sure people can't find new stuff easily, if at all. I'll leave this to ferment a while longer.

So far, this site has been where I kick off my shoes after a hard day's work, let down my hair and just do what the heck I want to, without giving even the smallest stuff for such trifles as design, usability, legibility, bandwidth and other things that I have a professional or academic interest in.

But this has been bothering me.

So, quite soon I'll change the look of the site.

For a sneak preview of some ideas, look here and here . (They are very much in progress, and I've assumed a 1024 x 768 screen resolution. I'll be more flexible in the production version.) The second one is probably a non starter in it's present form, as it depends a bit too much on the monitor settings of the user, but I'm leaving it here, because I like it.

At one stage, I was thinking about this. Not too keen on it now, though.

Oh my! This one's been knocking around for ages, and I forgot all about it!

Mail me if you love them, hate them or don't understand the question.

If I didn't disapprove of splash screens, I'd use this.

I've also created some banners. (Flash required.) - and some buttons.

I recently designed a postcard for an event at the Chisenhale Dance Space. A couple of versions are here.

In progress - some draft ideas for a new FOLDOC banner for Denis Howe.

I recently put up a quick site for Steve Dixon - www.dixonia.com - which will grow.
